Under moderate supervision of an Accounting Supervisor and exercising standard operating judgment in day-to-day transactions, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion. Performs varied and complex bookkeeping and clerical work involving the application of accounting principles and practices. Provides customer service and assists the public, city employees and vendors where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, gathered or presented. Performs account and/or bank reconciliations. Maintains data to ensure proper internal control and supply informational needs. Provides backup support to other divisions in Finance where needed.
Requires high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years experience in bookkeeping, accounting or equivalent experience. Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Experienced in equipment used in financial environment. Requires a high degree of accuracy using 10-key, calculators, typewriters and computers. Correct spelling, grammar and vocabulary. Knowledge of accounting systems software applications.
Physical Demands: Frequent standing or sitting for an extended period of time. May require hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to file and to supply shelves. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, to reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
