Position Overview:

The EHS Program Manager will provide vital support to our operations team by overseeing the safety program and fostering a consistent approach to EHS activities across our facility. You will play a key role in enhancing our EHS management systems by influencing leadership and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Group Health, Safety, and Environment Manager in the development of management systems across multiple sites.
  • Engage with production teams to actively contribute to yield and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Provide expert technical support and guidance to management regarding HS&E legal compliance and best practices.
  • Drive the Site Management Team to effectively implement our Safety Management System.
  • Oversee the site Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Permit, including:
    • Reviewing environmental aspects and assisting in the creation of control measures.
    • Managing EMS documentation, controls, and records.
    • Coordinating internal audit schedules, conducting audits, and ensuring timely corrective actions.
    • Reporting on environmental performance in relation to our Environmental Permit.
    • Conducting Best Available Techniques (BAT) reviews alongside various departments.
  • Support departments with:
    • Risk assessment programs.
    • HS&E auditing and inspection programs.
    • Developing HS&E operational procedures.
    • Incident investigations.
  • Manage:
    • HS&E training programs.
    • EHS audit schedules.
    • HS&E non-conformance reporting and resolutions.
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Oversee waste management practices to achieve zero landfill targets, ensuring optimal revenue from waste:
    • Maintain a Waste Stream Matrix.
    • Manage Duty of Care records and audits.
    • Liaise with waste management contractors.
    • Address equipment servicing and related issues.
  • Maintain HS&E KPI data, which includes:
    • Accident statistics.
    • Annual returns for Environmental Permits.
    • Environmental KPIs.
  • Collaborate with the People Department on Occupational Health matters.
  • Exemplify behaviors that underscore the importance of this critical role within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management or a related field (or equivalent experience) along with a minimum of five years in management roles focusing on environmental safety and wellness programs.
  • Experience implementing sustainability projects or EHS initiatives is essential.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) is preferred.
  • Background in the food and beverage manufacturing industry is an advantage.

Required Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing technology and associated HSE risks in an FMCG context.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE systems.
  • Ability to lead change while collaborating within teams.
  • Familiarity with ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards and the capacity to coordinate effectively with these standards.
  • Skilled in providing training resources for operators on key HSE tasks.
  • Adept in effective communication and presentation techniques, applying them appropriately within the role.
  • Proficient in HS and Environmental auditing principles and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Proficient in data collection and analysis to recommend improvements on HSE systems.
  • Pursuit of a NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety is required as a minimum.
  • Possession of a formal Environmental qualification, such as IEMA Diploma in Environmental Management, is favorable.
  • A confident professional with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive change.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Experience in a busy manufacturing and engineering setting is beneficial.
  • ISO14001 auditor certification is desired.

Work Environment:

  • Physical: Constantly standing or walking with regular lifting of moderate weight materials or equipment.
  • Visual/Sensory: Requires sustained attention to tasks using one or two senses at a time.
  • Repetitive Tasks: This role involves repetitive work within a standard environment.
  • Climate: Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions is necessary.
